Practice Tonight; More Info on Volunteer Jobs
Quick reminder that our last pre-season practice is tonight, Thursday May 26 at the Lodge pool. Coach Emily and Coach Ellerie will be here! Stay tuned to email and the notifications (if you have downloaded the Swimtopia App) for messages if the weather cancels things tonight.
Please RSVP for Meets:
We have had a strong response from everyone RSVP’ing for if your swimmer is attending each swimmer meet and signing up for volunteer jobs. If you have not RSVP’d yet for each meet, please do so as soon as possible. We need every swimmer to RSVP for each meet and let us know if your swimmer will be at each meet or not. If you do not RSVP we will not be able to enter them into the meet. Please RSVP as a NO if you cannot attend a meet so we are not left wondering if you are a no or you just forgot to RSVP.
Please sign up for meet jobs:
We also need everyone to sign up for their meet volunteer jobs. Remember we ask each family to work 3 whole meets or 6 half meets so we have enough help to make each meet run smoothly.
I do want to share a little more information about a few of the jobs and a few “specialized jobs” that we still need to fill.
Head Timer – It looks like people are signing up for Timer, but not Head Timer. Despite the name, the Head Timer position is not a bigger job and is actually easier than Timer. The Head Timer stands next to the Timers and if a Timer messes up during a race and cannot get their phone/the App to function, the Timer raises their hand and the Head Timer steps over and hits the button on their phone when the swimmer touches the wall. It is actually just a back-up timer. The Head Timer jumps into action only a few times a meet. So super easy!
Assistant Computer Operator – The Swim Meet runs through the Swimmingly App and an I Pad at the computer table on the pool deck. Eric Dewey has been our wonderful computer operator for several years. We are looking for an assistant computer person to assist Eric at home meets and hopefully learn enough so if Eric ever needs to go on vacation, we have a back-up. This does not require a high level of prior computer skills.
Announcer – Mike Lewantowicz (Coach Emily’s Dad) has been our home meet announcer for several years and has graciously agreed to do so again this year. But he cannot do the home meet on June 27. So we are looking for an announcer for June 27 only. If you are comfortable on a microphone and have been at a few swim meets in your day, we need someone to announce the start of each event during the meet and make the first call, second call, etc. for each event during the meet for June 27. Please let Laura Haara 502-235-4304 know if you can be the announcer for us.
If you have any questions about meet jobs or volunteer requirements, please contact our volunteer coordinator Lisa Heinemen at 502-432-9091.
Finally, attached to this email the communication from last week with the checklist of things to do before the season starts. Every swimmer (new families and returning families) have to take steps to get a swimmer number in Swimmingly for meets; download the Swimmingly App to be a timer or stroke and turn judge; download the Swimmingly Fan App to follow your swimmer during meets; download the Swimtopia App and turn on notifications to get instant alerts about practice and meet cancellations due to weather; ask to join the team FB page, and get your team suits at Swimville. All the instructions for these things are attached.
